In June 2024, Bigs and Littles enjoyed Day at the Marina at Hope Springs Marina, hosted by the very generous Berkley Mitchell. Upon arrival, attendees checked in with Jessica Dirks, BBBS Program Manager, and Veronica Curry, BBBS Board Member.
Fishing began at 9:30am with fishing guides Don Hicks, Wilson Greenlaw, and Tommy Mitchell. Many fish were caught and released. One Little caught a grand total of 5 fish!
Then, boating started at 10:45am with Captains Michael Gillies, Joe Schmidt, Bob Danko, Jamie Scully, and Shawn Desmond. They took our matches on a beautiful ride down Aquia Creek and out into the Potomac.
Upon return, they used paddleboards and kayaks, with help from John Garman and his crew (Ryland and Henry) of The Virginia Outdoor Center. What an adventure!
While enjoying lunch from the grill, prepared by Jonathan Pittman and Deb Harber, attendees also learned more about a highly trained canine companion from a VA Wildlife Resources officer.
Bigs and Littles love returning to Day at the Marina each year. For our new matches, it is an incredible bonding experience and day of growth and learning.
